Overview

With the exceedingly growing popularity of our Club, London Sharks is expanding. Flourishing into an Academy, and taking part in both Junior and Senior leagues, the Sharks are recruiting Community Coaches to assist us with our basketball programmes in South London and the surrounding area! Currently playing in the National Basketball League, London Sharks is looking for capable, qualified, motivated, and upbeat coaches to add to our team of dedicated volunteers who participate equally to ensure social partnerships, training in schools, club growth, and our impact among the wider community.

Role & Responsibilities

As a Community Coach, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and delivering productive training sessions
  • Liaising with schools and leagues for sessions and games
  • Working closely with Basketball England to maintain the clubs progress and development within the community
  • Training athletes during evenings, afterschool clubs, holidays, and weekends upto three times a week; ensuring training is fun, engaging, and beneficial, with technical and tactical requirements met
  • Facilitating training sessions for U18’s and/ or Senior leagues
  • Training assistant coaches and working effectively with coach colleagues
  • Overlooking and supervising league games
  • Devising play strategies to maximise and enhance individual and team performance
  • Attending Club Committee Meetings
  • Taking lead in the club’s partnership programmes with universities such as LSBU and other reputable organizations within the community.

Requirements

  • Level 2 or higher Basketball Coaching Certificate
  • Reliable, committed, and organised
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Full Enhanced DBS Certificate
  • Previous Coaching Experience & Immaculate leadership skills
  • Good knowledge of the rules of basketball with regards to the laws of the game, basic tactics, and jargon. Understanding of Basketball
  • England & FIBA regulations is a must.
  • Regular availability on weekends and weekday evenings
  • Willingness to travel to sports venues (driver’s license or travel card is an advantage)
  • In optimum physical condition
  • Eagerness to learn, develop and grow
  • An aptitude for a career in Sports
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Able to work in a professional manner
